Jesus Says

The idea for this song originates back in the late 70's. This is when many songs had political statements protesting the Vietnam War and other issues of the day. The originating idea was a simple one; “If JESUS took the floor and commented on what HE saw...WHAT WOULD HE SAY?”

I then attempted to set forth what He might say. The demo recording of the song was done in 1986. Those that heard the song loved it, but some said "it is not for now...it is for a time further in the future".

On the back masking touch in the beginning which you can hear when you buy the full CD: What Jesus Says he doesn't have to hide. HE is upfront, straight forward and in your face. HE doesn't hide between lines speaking backwards...like Satan the enemy.

When played in reverse the back masking in the beginning of the song states: "And the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth." Play it here in reverse.

Behold Come Lord Jesus

This song is placed after “Jesus Says” for a reason. After hearing that HE is coming with either reward or punishment, AND that there is nothing anyone can do about it, the only logical conclusion is to fall to one's knees and agree with us in our plea..."Behold Come Lord Jesus". This song was written in 2006. The song portrays the cry of mankind from the childhood of mankind, to the maturing of mankind, until prayers for HIS return reach a crescendo. It that point and suddenly, there is a booming "Go" which is the voice of the Father instructing Jesus that now is the time! Jesus instantly appears to the ecstatic cheers of those waiting for HIS return!

What Is Truth? (A Parable)

The title of this song began of course with John 18:38

Pilate saith unto him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, “I find in him no fault at all.”

We know that the only answer to this question is JESUS the incarnate WORD of GOD. There is only one truth that makes everything else a lie. That "Truth" is JESUS!

When writing this song and coming up with the chorus which was approximately 1980, I remember reading Proverbs chapter 1 verses 20-22 which reads:

“Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?”

I remember thinking wisdom is flying around everywhere and if you are wise you can find it, because it is available to all. Thus the phrase in the song "truth flies through the air was born".

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

John 18:38; 2 Tim 3:7; Pro 1:20-33; Heb 4:12; Matt 3:10; Matt 13: 13-15; Ro 12:2; Rom 1:20; Matt 7:28-29; Matt 4:25; Luke 5:15; Luke 23:9; John 14:7-9; Heb 1:3; Luke 23:21; Luke 13:34; Psalm 90:12; Pro 2:2; Pro 2:10

Power From On High

The Temptations put out a song in 1980 called "Power". It was a political statement denouncing politicians and their lust for power.

My purpose in writing this song was to expose the truth that what those politicians are after is not real power after all.

Jesus said in Matthew 28:18; “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

As believers it is vital that we walk in this power which is "The Holy Ghost". It is so important that Jesus said in Luke 24:49

“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

He in essence was saying "don't leave home without the Holy Ghost"....hey, that sounds like a song title for my next CD!...."don't leave home without the Holy Ghost"....I like it!

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Luke 24:49; 2 Tim 2:19; 1 Tim 4:1; 1 Thes 5:3; 1 Cor 10:13; 2 Cor 5:17; Gal 6:15; Pro 16:9; Pro 20:24; Psalm 90:10; Ja 4:14; Ro 7:17-19; Pro 12:17; 2 Tim 2:15; Psalm 62:9; Psalm 10:3; Ja 5:1-5; Psalm 49:10-12; Luke 18:25; 2 Cor 4:4; 2 Thes 2:3; 1 Pet 4:7; Matt 26:41; 2 Cor 5:4; Rev 14:9-11; Psalm 75:7-8; Rev 1:17-19; Eph 4:8; Luke 4:18

Finally With The Lord

The Lord came down and gave me a pen. He grabbed my hand causing me to write words and when HE was done the words of this song appeared on the paper. Oh yeah, HE was humming the melody line as we wrote.

He then said, "When you complete this record album this will be the TITLE SONG!” This was 25 years ago!

Why so long in completing it? This is because for those of us who left the church as young adults and lived in the world...Many never made it back to God. Some of us took decades to get back.

My little children between the ages of 12 and 24, here is a word from the Lord: "Don't leave Jesus, don't leave the church". The world has nothing for you. You are not an earth bound creature. You are seated even now in heavenly places in and with Christ. Therefore you cannot satisfy a heavenly creature with "earth bound garbage" it is a trick of the enemy, it is a deception of the enemy. YOU WILL NOT BE SATISFIED. I know whereof I speak, I left the church once...but now, I am "Finally With The LORD".

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Let Your Light So Shine

This song originated by a desire in my heart - placed there by the Holy Ghost - to put to music the command in Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

The inspiration included a fast paced list of reasons why we should: "Let your light so shine before men" in the verses and then a slower in tempo chorus where the command itself is reiterated again and again.

It later also seemed good to merge the old gospel song "This Little Light of Mine" into the chorus. Background singer Myra Beasley is featured on this song. Isn't she awesome!!

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Luke 14:28-29; Luke 9:62; Luke 14:26; Matt 5:16; Psalm 39:1-3; John 1:5; 1 Tim 5:6; Matt 28:19-20; Matt 6:19-20; Heb 11:13; 1 Pet 2:11; Ja 1:12; Luke 16:10-12; Rev 3:2-4; Col 3:2-4; Rev 5:12;

Journey Of A Man's Life

It's hard to remember but I think this may be the first song written in this collection. I was approximately 22 years of age and realized that life was like a journey. On this journey there was a RIGHT path and a WRONG path. In the imagery I was climbing up a mountain so high that after walking through the clouds at the top of the mountain, I met with Moses. He began to talk with me and poured out the wisdom in this song. I then retreated down the mountain so changed by his words that a walked on the RIGHT path thereafter.

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Deu 9:9; Psalm 70:2; Phil 4:7; Psalm 34:14; 1 Pet 3:11; 1 John 2:9; 1 John 2:11; Eph 4:28; Ro 12:18; Acts 24:16; 1 Cor 6:13; Matt 7:12-14; Ja 1:5; Matt 7:12; Matt 22: 36-39; 2 Tim 4:7-8; Eph 5:16; Ja 4:14; Pro 2:2; Pro 2:10; Acts 20:35; 1 Cor 12:1-31; Rev 14:13; 1 Cor 3: 11-15

Left Behind (For the Last Time)

The inspiration for this song I must confess came from a feeling of a, “oh poor, woe is me, why me,” self pity party of the highest order. I began to think how awful it is to be last in line all the time...and then to cap off an entire life of being last, with the ultimate insult of being left behind again! Only this time for THAT BIG FINAL AND LAST TIME. Trust me, based on what the scripture says, you do not want to be left behind this time. HOWEVER, as believers it is not nearly enough to save our own necks. We should have a burning desire and love for the lost. This love should be the driving force behind why we would die to make sure no one else gets left behind either.

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Ecc 3:14; Matt 24: 1-3; Rev 6:16-17; Rev 11:18; Matt 25:31-33; Luke 21:26; Rom 1:18; Rev 22:10-12; Isa 30:1; Psalm 66:7; Luke 21:33

He Will Lift You Up

No angelic revelation, no lightning and thunder. Just figured it was high time for some good old fashioned, foot stomping, hand clapping gospel music; music that celebrates the deliverances we have in JESUS and how HE will continue to deliver HIS people throughout their entire life. On this we can depend!

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Psalm 34:18; Job 5:19; Psalm 50:15; Psalm 91:15; Psalm 107:6; Psalm 34:4; Matt 7:14; Psalm 73:23; Psalm 124:1-3; Lam 3:22-24; Deu 26:8; Psalm 98:1; Exo 19:4; Isa 40:31; Luke 4:18

Fishers Of Men

This is strange but I have to admit it. With "Fishers of Men" we as producers tried to make a song that was not pretty. Why? Because war is not pretty. We attempted to capture the fact that as believers we are called into battle. Personally I think the first century Christians understood that better than we do here in modern day America. I think we have somehow merged the white picket fence, 2 children new mid-sized car aspirations into our Christianity until there are synonymous. But this is not what the Bible teaches. The first century Christians used to rejoice when they were persecuted. They knew something that maybe we have forgotten.

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Matt 4:19; John 21:16-18; Pro 11:30; Jude 1:23; Pro 10:12; 1 Pet 4:8; 1 Cor 3:6

Behold Your King

The inspiration for this song starts with Pilate’s assertion in John 19:14
“And it was the preparation of the Passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!”

I tried to capture the regal, high and lifted up status of JESUS the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is royal and majestic beyond human comprehension. He dwells in a light to which no one can approach. HE is the supreme ruler of the universe now and forevermore!! JESUS is all, owns all, is greater than all, existed before all, because HE created all. JESUS is HIS name. And HE alone is KING!

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Rev 1:8; John 1:3; Rev 1:18; Col 1:16-17; Heb 1:3; Psalm 27:10; Song of S 2:1; Rev 22:16; Isa 9:7; Luke 1:32; Ex 3:14; Dan 4:35; Heb 10:5; John 2:16-17; Heb 12:2; Phil 2:8; Acts 20:28; Eph 1:14; 1 Pet 1:18-20; John 19:14; 2 Kings 19:31; Isa 37:32; Isa 6:1-3

Jesus Please (Shine Your Light On Me)

Steve Bravo, the co-author of this song and myself got on a track of praying the WORD back to the LORD and placing it to music. This song is a prayer confessing that apart from HIM we are nothing and that we desperately need a touch from HIM continually or we live as dead men.

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

2 Cor 4:6; 2 Pet 1:19; John 15:4; Gal 4:6; John 7:38; Matt 3:11; James 1:21; Psalm 119:25; Phil 3:10; Matt 5:6; Eph 4:18

The Calling

The opening line of this song comes from Matthew 26:39
“And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

It also has elements of Moses and his attempt to get relieved of his calling in Exodus 4:1-17. The bottom line, the LORD fully equips and empowers us to perform the call that HE has put upon us. Why? Because HE is faithful and it is impossible for HIM to be unfaithful.

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

Matt 26:39; Ex 4:10; Ex 4:1; Ro 7:22; Zec 4:6; Isa 30:21; Mark 13:11; 1 Cor 16:13; Pro 3:6; Psalm 8:2; Matt 21:16; Eze 21:26; Ro 12:16; 1 Pet 3:6; Matt 10:28; Eph 6:18; Luke 21:36; Col 4:2; 1 Pet 4:7; Luke 19:40; 1 Cor 1:30; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 Cor 12:9-11; Phil 1:6; Phil 2:13; Ro 11:29

Sweet Spirit

This is another personal testimony song. I am reminded of John 16: 13-14 which reads: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.”

You see fellow believers, our confidence is not in flesh or in any man or even ourselves. It is in the fact that by HIS spirit, HE will never leave us and never forsake us.

Scripture references used in writing this song are:

2 Cor 4:16; Isa 30:21; Psalm 94:19; Isa 57:18; Psalm 34:17-19; Psalm 91:4; Isa 51:5; Phil 1:21; John 14:26; John 15:26; John 16:7; Neh 8:10; Col 1:11
